ABOUT

Sara Ruddock  –  Swedish dance artist and choreographer based in London, working in performance, research and education, with movement, voice and listening – engaging with dance and choreography as vibrational and relational practices, inviting multi-dimensional ways of being-with bodies and their relations, with the edges and in-betweens.

Professionally active within dance and choreography since 2002, performing and touring as dancer in Scandinavia and internationally, working in collaborative projects with other artists and creating a number of solo works. Over the years developing an ever-unfolding artistic practice of research and experimentation in and through dance and choreography. Currently spending time with singing and vibration, sonic, rhythmic and listening bodies, resonance and resistance.

– MFA, BA(Hons) – Educated mainly at DOCH, Stockholm University of The Arts, most recently at the Master Programme New Performative Practices, 2013. Currently a PhD candidate at Roehampton University, London.

As dancer/performer having worked with a great range of choreographers including Deborah Hay (USA), Lena Josefsson/Kompani Raande-Vo (SWE) and Jules Cunningham (UK). Since  2018 engaged in various projects in the UK, as performer and choreographer, in collaboration with Siobhan Davies Dance, and with artists/choreographers such as Stefan Jovanović and Pepa Ubera, with support from Sadler’s Wells and Dance4. In recent years creating audio-guides for dancing, moving and listening outdoors in collaboration with Exit Map/dance artist Laura Doehler, providing movement direction for film and also working in Sweden as dancer and choreographer for the Raande-Vo Dance Festival performing in the re-staged Ett Paradis Trängt. Singing and performing as current member of the London-based all-genders F*Choir.

As educator, having worked as Lecturer of Contemporary Dance at DOCH – Stockholm University of the Arts (2006-2012), at the Royal Swedish Ballet School, Dance East, Central School of Ballet and at Trinity Laban Conservatoire for Music & Dance (2017-ongoing), as well as facilitating classes and workshops for practitioners, students and professionals internationally. Over the last few years offering classes and workshops at Independent Dance, Siobhan Davies Studios, Chisenhale Dance Space and Danscentrum Stockholm.
